How to create string shape solids

  1. First, we prepare the font file. TTF, PFD and OTF format font file can be used.
    If your platform is Windows, you can check installed fonts from [Control Panel]-[Fonts] in start menu. In this example, we use [Times New Roman] that is installed on windows.

    Copy following 4 files to your working folder.
    • Times New Roman (times.ttf)
    • Times New Roman Italic (timesi.ttf)
    • Times New Roman Bold (timesbd.ttf)
    • Times New Roman Bold Italic (timesbi.ttf)
  2. Click [File]-[New] in menu bar to create new document. Move to Draft workbenchDraft workbench.
  3. Select "Shape String"Draft_ShapeString to start creating shape string. Parameter settings dialog is displayed at top of 3D view.
  4. First, set string position. Enter a numeric value and move to next input box by TAB key. You can also change them later. After entering Global X, Global Y and Global Z, move to next setting parameters by Enter key.

    * You can also set these parameters by picking 3D view with mouse.
  5. Enter the string to create a shape. You can also change them later. Move to next setting parameters by Enter key.

  6. Enter a font size. You can also change them later. Move to next setting parameters by Enter key.

  7. Enter a space size between characters. You can also change them later. Move to next setting parameters by Enter key.

  8. Specify a font type to be used. Specify the prepared font file of Times New Roman "times.ttf".

    A shape string will be displayed on the 3D view.

  9. At propery (Data tab) of shape string, you can change string, string position, space size between characters, font file and others.

  10. Next, we will extrude the created shape string to create a solid. Move to Part Design workbenchPartDesign workbench.
  11. Select the shape string on model tree and extrudePartDesign_Pad it to create a solid.
